In my senior year at Northeastern, I got the opportunity to complete a project in order to graduate with Honors in Design. I created Project Springboard: an Accessibility Accelerator.
I choose the topic of accessibility design for my semester-long project as it is something I have worked with at my previous jobs and recognize a great need for. With the mission statement of “Through education, we can increase awareness about the importance of accessibility design and empower designers to make significant changes in the way we view disability and inclusion.” Project Springboard embodies the idea that accessibility design can be a springboard for innovation, creating better offerings for all people regardless of ability.
As a part of the honors project process I presented my work to the Dean of the College of Arts Media and Design. In the presentation I shared the mission statement, my research and the deliverables and received very positive feedback.

These pocket-sized reference cards provide information on how different principles apply to accessibility design. On the back side there are questions for designers to ask themselves while they are working on a project. The small cards are intended to be referenced again and again in order for designers to understand if their content is accessible.
This poste explains the basic principles of accessibility design. The purpose is for it to be be used in public places like classrooms and offices for many people to see and learn from.
The last deliverable is this booklet addressing the three basic design concepts of accessibility, usable and universal design. All of which are crucial to creating inclusive content. The booklet is 3”x5'“ and is intended to be a quick guide for designers that briefly explains these three design concepts and their importance. There is also a pouch at the back to store the design principle reference cards.
The goal of the mobile website is to be the hub for Project Springboard, with information about the design principles and concepts. The web format allows it to be flexible and can constantly grow as the project does.
